How Mamoth Expanded Secure Device Recycling and Computer Disposal Services Across the Northeast

COVID changed how businesses operated almost overnight. For Mamoth, it introduced both a new challenge and a new opportunity for growth.

For years, most enterprise ITAD providers focused on computers, servers, and data center equipment. Asset turnover was steady and predictable, with businesses relying on trusted partners to securely erase data. Mamoth established itself as a leading Northeastern ITAD service provider, serving corporations, residents, and government across Pennsylvania, New York, New Jersey, and Ohio to name a few.

Then everything changed.

As lockdown struck and many companies moved to remote work, the number—and more importantly, the type—of deployed IT assets grew rapidly. Laptops, tablets, and mobile phones became essential enterprise tools. That shift created a new demand for ITAD providers. Mamoth needed a way to process a wider range of devices and handle increasing volumes without slowing down.

To support this transition and expand into mobile device erasure, Mamoth turned to Blancco.

With Blancco, Mamoth:

  • Bullet icon Scaled device processing from 2–4 machines per technician to 50–60 running simultaneously
  • Bullet icon Enabled high-volume processing through automated, repeatable workflows
  • Bullet icon Reduced hands-on processing time from minutes per device to under a minute
  • Bullet icon Strengthened compliance with NIST and IEEE 2883:2022 standards, with full certification support
  • Bullet icon Expanded capabilities to include mobile device erasure in-house

The Challenge

Mamoth is an ITAD service provider that experienced rapid growth over a short period. Like its namesake, it was built for scale in a stable environment, but when that environment changed, adaptation became critical. As device usage expanded, so did the volume of data-bearing assets entering the ITAD stream. Businesses, agencies, and organizations across the Northeastern United States depended on Mamoth to securely manage end-of-life data, placing increasing pressure on its operations as demand continued to rise.

At the same time, the nature of those assets began to shift.

Before widespread remote work, mobile devices made up a small portion of enterprise environments. Most dispositioning centers  focused on computer and data center disposal. When devices appeared, Mamoth could rely on downstream partners to process them. Internal workflows centered on computers, drives, and data center equipment, where processes were established and predictable.

That model no longer held.

As companies equipped employees with laptops, tablets, and mobile phones, both the volume and variety of devices increased rapidly. Mobile assets moved from occasional exceptions to a core part of decommissioning workloads. Mamoth needed to support a broader mix of data-bearing devices while maintaining the same level of security and reliability their customers expected.

The Solution

To address these challenges, Mamoth turned to Blancco to standardize and expand its data erasure capabilities across a wider range of devices.

A key requirement was the ability to bring mobile device processing in-house. Prior to implementing Blancco, Mamoth did not have a dedicated solution for securely erasing data from cell phones and other mobile assets. These devices often required external handling, creating gaps in their workflow. With Blancco, Mamoth established a unified process that supported mobile devices alongside traditional assets such as laptops, SSDs, and other data-bearing hardware.

Blancco also introduced a more structured and automated approach to device processing. Devices connect and boot into the system, where technicians input required details such as identifiers and custom fields tied to Mamoth’s internal processes. From there, the erasure workflow runs with minimal manual intervention, creating a consistent and repeatable process across technician stations.

This setup allowed Mamoth to align its operations around standardized procedures. Technicians followed the same workflow regardless of device type, reducing variability and simplifying training and execution. The combination of controlled inputs and automated execution created a clear, auditable process for handling data-bearing assets.

In parallel, Mamoth integrated Blancco into its existing service model to support compliance requirements. The solution enabled alignment with recognized standards such as NIST and IEEE, while continuing to support the generation of certificates of destruction as part of their deliverables. This ensured that each processed device met both internal requirements and customer expectations for secure data sanitization.

Blancco also provided a solution that Mamoth’s customers already recognized. As an established and trusted platform within the industry, it supported Mamoth’s approach to delivering secure, standardized data erasure across an expanding range of devices.

“It made sense to jump into this industry-tested, trusted software that our clients are familiar with. They know the name Blancco, and it gives us that credibility that we are doing things the correct way.”

The Results

With Blancco, Mamoth turned a growing operational strain into a stronger service offering. The team gained the ability to process more devices, support mobile assets in-house, and give customers faster, standards-aligned data sanitization. With Blancco solutions, Mamoth reported:

  • Higher device throughput
Technicians scaled from handling 2–4 machines per person to managing 50–60 devices running simultaneously.
  • Faster hands-on processing
Time spent per device dropped from roughly 10 minutes to just 30–40 seconds before moving to the next unit.
  • More scalable technician workflows
Devices connect and boot into the system, technicians enter required inputs, and the erasure process continues with minimal manual intervention.
  • Mobile device erasure brought in-house
Mamoth eliminated the need to send cell phones downstream by enabling secure mobile data erasure within its own operations.
  • Expanded processing capacity without added complexity
Standardized workflows support higher device volumes while keeping execution consistent across technician stations.
  • Stronger compliance support
Mamoth meets customer expectations for NIST-aligned erasure, uses IEEE 2883:2022 for flash media, and provides certificates of destruction.

For Mamoth, Blancco helped turn higher device volume into a manageable, repeatable process. For ITADs facing the same pressure, the right erasure software can help teams process more assets, support more device types, and deliver the documentation customers expect.
