At a Glance 6,000 laptops securely erased 260 sites tackled with multi-location data erasure 95% of devices wiped remotely over a secure network 50% reduction in data disposal costs Full compliance with Japanese Ministry of Internal Affairs guidelines
The Challenge When Japan’s Ministry of Internal Affairs mandated onsite erasure of end-of-life devices, Niigata Prefecture faced a significant challenge. With 6,000 leased laptops spread across 260 locations, dispatching technicians or shipping devices offsite wasn’t just inefficient — it was now non-compliant. Even with secure LAN and centralized asset management, the prefecture needed a scalable, low-disruption approach to multi-location data erasure that could support data loss prevention compliance without overextending resources. The Solution To meet the need for multi-location data eraser at scale, Niigata Prefecture partnered with IT leasing provider FLCS Co., Ltd. and Blancco to enable a secure, employee-led process. Blancco Drive Eraser was distributed to target laptops over the network, allowing staff to perform erasures onsite without technician intervention. Reports were automatically captured by the Blancco Management Portal (On-Premise), providing full traceability and compliance across all 260 locations — all within the secure LGWAN network. “Even when applying the process to all PCs… approximately 80% to 90% of the process could be handled via the network.” — Mr. Kazuya Arakawa
Impact Streamlined Data Erasure with Maximum Efficiency and Compliance Minimal Disruption Employees erased devices onsite without interrupting daily workflows — even across 260 locations, thanks to scalable multi-location data erasure. Regulatory Compliance Met strict Ministry of Internal Affairs requirements while aligning with data loss prevention compliance obligations. Operational Efficiency Lowered labor, transport, and admin costs by integrating erasure into existing workflows, contributing to measurable data destruction cost savings Centralized Reporting Full visibility via Blancco Management Portal (On-Premise), with automated logging and oversight across all sites.
